ANZAC DAY 2024

On Thursday 25 April, the nation will pause to remember our fallen.

Lockyer Valley Regional Council (LVRC) encourages community members to show their respects by attending one of the many services held across the region.

All current and ex-service men and women, people representing ex-service personnel, schools, and sporting and community groups are invited to participate in Anzac Day marches.

HAVE YOUR SAY – FLOOD INSURANCE

Locals affected by rising flood insurance costs or coverage refusals are urged to provide feedback directly to the Australian Government via the Parliamentary Flood Insurance Inquiry.

Flood insurance for homes and businesses have increased substantially in recent years following the spate of floods that have impacted the region, making it increasingly hard to afford.

LVRC met with key representatives of the Insurance Council of Australia late last year to voice concerns on behalf of the community.

During the meeting, council called for insurance companies to be better informed about local flood modelling and actual flood risks, and to be more compassionate and understanding of the financial and emotional toll insurance rises and refusals were having on Lockyer Valley residents.

The online survey is open for submissions until 31 July 2024, and residents are strongly encouraged to take up this opportunity.

LAIDLEY LIBRARY NOW OPEN SATURDAYS

Did you know Laidley Library is now open on Saturdays, 9am to 11.30am?

Following the success of the recent Saturday morning trial at the Gatton Library, residents can now access the Laidley Library on Saturdays, too.

Why not pop in and browse the new releases, borrow an item, or use the technology resources – it’s all free.

LVRC recognises not all library members are able to access the facilities during business hours and council values providing access to this much-loved service to as many residents as possible.
