Gatton man charged for homicide

Detectives have charged a 52-year-old Gatton man in relation to an ongoing homicide investigation in Gatton.

Toowoomba detectives launched the investigation following the death of 76-year-old Gatton and Minden Bus Service owner Jim Hill on Sunday 5 May.

Police will allege between 4pm and 7pm on 25 April, the 52-year-old man entered a residence on Hood Street and assaulted Mr Hill.

Investigators believe the two men were known to each other as acquaintances.

Mr Hill was located by emergency services with serious injuries at his Hood Street address and was transported to Toowoomba Hospital.

His condition deteriorated and he passed away at hospital on 5 May.

Following extensive investigations by detectives, the 52-year-old Gatton man has been charged with one count each of enter dwelling with intent by break at night, deprivation of liberty, acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm and wilful damage.

His police bail was refused and he was due to appear before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday, 23 May.

Investigations are continuing.
