Twenty-three local volunteer-run community organisations in Ipswich and the Somerset Region will share in more than $66,000 in funding under the 2023-24 Volunteer Grants announced on 27 May.

Successful recipients of the grant funding included Lowood Show Society, Kilcoy Golf Club, Toogoolawah Golf Club, Rosewood and District Support Centre and Rosewood Branch Little Athletics.

Through the $10 million 2023-24 Volunteer Grant Round, community organisations will receive grants of up to $5,000 to buy small equipment for volunteers, or reimburse their fuel, transport or training costs.

Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann visited Ipswich Meals on Wheels to celebrate National Volunteering Week and their 68th birthday, as well as congratulate them on their $3,000 Volunteer Grant, which will help cover the cost of fuel for volunteers.

“Meals on Wheels is a fantastic organisation and I’m proud to have secured Volunteer Grants for them and many other worthy community groups in Blair,” he said.

“It was great to catch up with Ipswich Meals on Wheels Manager Rebecca Dakin and their many dedicated volunteers, including Rita, who has been helping out for 31 years, to share the good news.”

Mr Neumann said the funding boost from the State Government was greatly welcomed as it will provide greater support for local volunteers and ensure they can continue to support their community.
